“I Fell in Love with a Witch”: The Vision of Gerald Gardner

“I Fell in Love with a Witch”: The Vision of Gerald Gardner

Some people argue that Gardnerians cannot claim to have the right to do something merely because Gardner did it. Yes, the historical pattern is that religious founders always have rights and privileges that their followers cannot have. I see this clearly in the three cases I know best, those of Gardner, Joseph Smith, and the Rabbi Joshua (whose Greek name was Jesus).
Shamanism

Shamanism

Shamanism is an ancient system of healing, whereby a shaman enters an altered state of consciousness allowing him to consult with guardians and helpful spirits. When this takes place the shaman is able to slip through a doorway and enter otherworld dimensions, he is guided by his guardian spirit and spirit helpers, while in the spiritual dimension he draws upon enormous power and can see the cause of disease in a patient and also know the cure. When the shaman helps a recently deceased person cross over, this work is called psycho pomp.

Pagan Acceptance

Pagan Acceptance

Something magickal happened this year in the Iowa House of Representatives, and it’s a ground breaking change that, for some, marks the beginning of the end of Wicca’s fight for recognition as a mainstream religion.  On the 9th of April of this year, a Wiccan priest was invited to come give the o...
Witches and Other Creatures

Witches and Other Creatures

Superstition paints a very dark picture of witches, they are described as old, bent, unattractive, bow legged, stringy haired practitioners of dark magic, always accompanied by their ever faithful and equally dastardly familiar. It was believed that a witch was unable to shed tears unless succumbing to the pain of torture, whereby the witch would cry and at this point it was said they lost their powers. Severe punishments for practicing witches were imposed from the seventh century and in the twelfth century the death penalty was brought in.

THE WITCH WAY

THE WITCH WAY

Witchcraft is one of the oldest religions in the world, and many of the ancient traditions such as the worship of the Earth and the Moon Mother, have been carried down through families and are still practised today. Wicca is a derivative of the word wise, witches were the wise ones. Witchcraft has appeared in different forms in many cultures over time and in all instances the Earth is revered as the giver of life, and is inextricably linked to the cycle of nature. Our higher selves are influenced by the cycles of the Sun, the Moon, the stars and the natural world, allowing us to tap into cosmic energy to recharge.
LONE WITCH

LONE WITCH

Rather than belonging to a coven or being part of a group, there are many witches who are lone sailors, they prefer to walk the magic path with autonomy. This wise person has a unique relationship with nature and is often a herbalist, someone who uses their natural healing abilities to help others. The Moon’s cycles are especially important to the lone witch, as the ever changing lunar energies are worked with. If you are a practicing lone witch you can learn how to work with the ancient arts, once you become at ease with the ancient energies you can then heal yourself and others, you can work with herbs and crystals or any accouterments you feel comfortable with, while you tune into the wisdom of the ages.
